Enrique Toral is rapidly becoming a much sought after voice teacher in Southern
California. He has previously run private studios in San Francisco, Cincinnati
and most recently New York City. He currently is a member of the voice faculty
at San Diego State University. Prior to moving to San Diego in 2005 he was the
Director of Artist Programs with Opera Company of Brooklyn from 2001-2006.
Enrique is comfortable teaching singers of all levels and musical
backgrounds/genres including classical, musical theater, rock/pop and jazz. His
singers develop a conceptual framework that promotes vocal proficiency and
synergistically integrates mind and body, technique and artistry. Where most
voice teachers only work on vocal technique, Enrique delves into all aspects of
vocal performance including diction, dramatic interpretation and presentation.
He frequently presents master classes and workshops across the country. His
former students and apprentices have gone on to successful solo and stage
careers, appearing On and Off-Broadway and with major companies throughout
the US and abroad including New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Deutsche
Oper Berlin, Baltimore Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City
and Opera Theater of St. Louis, to name a few.
He is an Executive Board member of the National Association of Teachers of
Singing - San Diego Chapter, as well as a Board member of the California
International Young Artists Competition.
